Seminar on Best practices in library and Information Centre
“The concept of library is changing. It will be digitized soon,” said NRI Forum Deputy Chairman Capt Ganesh Karnik.
Speaking after inaugurating a seminar on ‘Best practices in library andinformation centre’ organised jointly by the Dakshina Kannada and Kodagu Library Association in association with St Agnes College library on Wednesday, 19th August, 2009 at the Conference hall , St.Agnes College, he said the library will be available on net. World is changing at the faster rate.He said the education is not mere producing graduates and skilled labourers to the required market. It is also giving knowledge to the students on facing life. Education institutions should convert student population to human resources. Librarians can contribute by opening the other windows of the world by accessing sources of knowledge to the students.
Indian Statistical Institute Documentation Research and Training Centre’s Prof I K Ravichandra Rao said the role of books, libraries and librarians are changing today. Earlier, library catalogue was the only source for seraching the books in the library. However, now catalogues of various libraries can be accessed with a touch of a button. He said the principles of classification laid down by Father of Indian Library Movement Dr S R Ranganathan are relevant even to this day than what it was in 1940s.Libraries must accept the change, he added.

St Agnes College Principal Dr Sr Prem D’Souza presided. Secretary of DK & KLA, Dr Vishala B K., Librarian of St.Agnes College, welcomed the gathering and Public Relations Officer Mr. Dheeraj S M,. S.G.Librarian, Dhavala College, Moodbidri proposed the vote of thanks. Dr. Rekha D Pai from MIT, Manipal compared the programme.
