Ranganatha’s day Celebration at St. Agnes College, Mangalore

The department of Library and Research and Development Cell of St.Agnes College, Mangalore organized an informative exhibition on “RESEARCH DOCUMENTS” on 12th August, 2009 at St.Agnes College library. The documents like theses, dissertations, project reports, honours programme reports, publications, associations and Cells reports of the faculty and students were exhibited.

The exhibition has been inaugurated by the former Vice – Chancellor of Kannur and Calicut Universities, Prof. Dr. Abdul Rahiman, who not only appreciated the organizers for this innovative idea of exhibiting the research documents but also stressed that this exhibition should inspire and motivate many more research aspirants to get into research and bringing out their publications.

The Keynote address has been delivered by Prof. K. V. Rao , Director of Pilikula Nisarga Dhama, Mangalore, who in his address narrated that, though in the modern technological world, information is available on the click of the mouse, it is the responsibility of the researchers and users to analyse and evaluate every aspect of information available with them..He also stated that librarians are the resource persons to give proper direction to the readers in the search of information.

Dr. Sr. Prem M. D’Souza the Principal of the College presided over the function. Dr.VishalaB.K.-Coordinator of Research and Development Cell and Selection Grade librarian, who co ordinated the exhibition, briefed the purpose of the exhibition and the importance of celebrating the birth date of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan as Librarians Day.

Prof. Lingappa Gowda welcomed the gathering, Mrs. Kavitha, Asst. Librarian proposed vote of thanks and Mrs.Malavika Adyanthaya compared the programme.

The exhibition was open from 12-08-2009 to 19-08-2009 to the colleges affiliated to Mangalore University and non professional colleges of Dakshina Kannada, Kodagu and Udupi districes. The faculty and librarians of various colleges availed the benefit of accessing the research documents.
